A visit to Zaanse Schans and the participating museums, mills and heritage sites of the Ticket Zaanse Schans is subject to the General Terms and Conditions for Visitors. These are available for inspection at the information desk and can be viewed below.

General terms and conditions online ticket sales
Article 1: Ticket sales, offers and prices
Article 1.1: All quotations, announcements or other information provided by Zaanse Schans and participating museums, mills and heritage sites are not without obligation. Zaanse Schans and participating museums, mills and heritage sites accept liability for any errors made by Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites in quotations, announcements or otherwise provided to the visitor. This liability applies only to the visitor’s own information material present within Zaanse Schans at the participating museums, mills and heritage sites at the time of the claim, or recently distributed by or on behalf of Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites. De Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites is not liable for mistakes due to intent, fault or negligence of third parties.
Article 1.2: The visitor is at all times obliged to show upon request the admission ticket and any card or voucher entitling him/her to admission to the participating museums, mills and heritage sites to officials recognisable as such, including but not limited to attendants.
Article 1.3: The potential visitor is not entitled to obtain a refund of the admission price or any other compensation in the event of loss or theft of the admission ticket before entering the participating museums, mills and heritage sites. If a potential visitor does not use the pre-purchased admission ticket, this is at the visitor’s own expense and risk; this is also the case if the admission ticket is only valid for a certain date. There will be no refund of the admission price. The entry price paid may, however, be refunded if circumstances beyond the buyer’s control make the visit impossible, however, this is at the discretion of the management.
Article 1.4: The potential visitor can be denied access to the participating museums, mills and heritage sites if it appears that the admission ticket, discount card or voucher has not been obtained from the participating museums, mills and heritage sites or a body authorised to do so by the participating museums, mills and heritage sites.
Article 2: Complaints and claims
Article 2.1: De Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites will do everything possible to ensure that visits to the participating museums, mills and heritage sites take place in accordance with the published offer; this includes the obligation to inform the public as well as possible about full, partial or early closure of the participating museums, mills and heritage sites. Furthermore, Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites will inform the potential public about maintenance work, renovations or the (re)arrangement of spaces causing nuisance. The visitor can never derive a right to compensation from this.
Article 2.2: Claims are not possible with regard to the following complaints and circumstances, which cannot be avoided by the participating museums, mills and heritage sites, and therefore never lead to any obligation for compensation by the participating museums, mills and heritage sites to the visitor:
- a. complaints relating to the invisibility of objects from the permanent collection of the participating museums, mills and heritage sites;
- b. complaints relating to the partial closure of the participating museums, mills and heritage sites, including, but not limited to, partial closure due to the construction or dismantling of exhibitions;
- c. complaints and circumstances relating to nuisance or inconvenience caused by other visitors, including, but not limited to, noise nuisance, inappropriate behaviour, theft and molestation;
- d. complaints and circumstances relating to nuisance or inconvenience caused by maintenance work, including but not limited to renovation or the (re)arrangement of rooms;
- e. complaints and circumstances relating to nuisance or inconvenience caused by the improper functioning of facilities at participating museums, mills and heritage sites.
Article 2.3: Complaints and requests for recovery regarding the agreement between Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites and the visitor should reach Zaanse Schans in writing within six weeks after the visit has taken place. Complaints and requests for advertising submitted after this period will not be considered.
Article 2.4: The Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites will investigate the complaint and reply in writing within 30 days of receipt. If the investigation has not been completed by then, the complainant will be informed of this and the probable time when it will be.
Article 2.5: The visitor may submit complaints, claims and suggestions for improvement in writing.
Article 3: Liability of Zaanse Schans
Article 3.1: Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites and/or third parties can never be held liable for damage arising as a result of price quotations, announcements or other forms of information provided to the visitor by Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites, except if and insofar as such damage is the direct result of an intentional act or omission or gross negligence on the part of Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites and/or its employees.
Article 3.2: The stay of the visitor at Zaanse Schans and at the participating museums, mills and heritage sites is at its own expense and risk. The Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites is only liable for property and/or consequential damage suffered by the visitor or injury caused to the visitor which is the direct and exclusive result of wilful intent or gross negligence on the part of the Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites, on the understanding that only that damage qualifies for compensation against which the Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites is insured, or should have been insured in all reasonableness and fairness.
Article 3.3: ln no case shall the Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites be obliged to pay a higher amount of compensation than:
- a. the admission price actually paid and travel costs actually incurred or, if more;
- b. the amount paid by the insurer of the Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites to the Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites in respect of the damage, or;
- c. the compensation obtained in respect of the damage from another third party.
Article 3.4: For damage caused to the visitor’s vehicles, Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites shall never be liable except if and insofar as the damage was caused on the premises of Zaanse Schans and this damage is the direct result of an intentional act or omission or gross negligence on the part of Zaanse Schans and/or its employees.
Article 3. 5: Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites shall never be liable for any (in)direct damage whatsoever, arising as an (in)direct consequence of any defect, any quality or circumstance to, in or on any immovable property of which Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites is holder, leaseholder, lessee or owner or is otherwise at the disposal of the Zaanse Schans, except if and insofar as the damage is the direct result of intent or gross negligence on the part of the Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites and/or its employees.
Article 3. 6: If the Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites take delivery of goods or if goods are deposited, kept and/or left anywhere by anyone in any way without the Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites stipulating any compensation for them, then the Zaanse Schans, participating museums mills and heritage sites shall never be liable for damage to or in connection with goods in any manner whatsoever unless the Zaanse Schans and/or the participating museums, mills and heritage sites have intentionally caused damage, or the damage is the result of gross negligence on the part of the Zaanse Schans and/or the heritage participating museums, mills and heritage sites.
Article 3.7: The total liability of Zaanse Schans, the heritage participating museums, mills and heritage sites on account of attributable shortcomings in the fulfilment of the visitation agreement is limited to compensation for direct damage and will in no case exceed the compensation arrangement described under 3.3.
Article 3.8: In the event of damage due to death or physical injury, the total liability of Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites will in no case exceed the compensation arrangement described under 3.3.
Article 3.9: Liability of Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites for indirect damages, including consequential damages, lost profits or wages, lost savings et cetera, is excluded.
Article 3.10: The maximum amounts mentioned in clause 3.3 shall lapse if and insofar as the damage is the result of intent or gross negligence on the part of Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites or one of its officials.
Article 4: Force majeure
Article 4.1: As force majeure for the Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites, which means that any shortcoming caused thereby cannot be attributed to the Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites, applies every unforeseeable circumstance which interferes with the execution of the agreement by the Zaanse Schans, the participating museums, mills and heritage sites to such an extent that, temporarily or permanently, the execution of the agreement becomes impossible or difficult.
Article 4.2: By such circumstances are also understood circumstances with persons and/or services and/or institutions which the Zaanse Schans, participating museums, mills and heritage sites makes use of in the execution of the visitor agreement, as well as everything which applies to the aforementioned as force majeure or suspensive or resolutive condition, as well as attributable shortcomings of the aforementioned.
