The Zaanse Schans is a residential and working area in which the 18th and 19th century come to life again. Hospitality is very important to us and we want to let the visitor experience this feeling both during a visit and when planning a visit in advance. In some cases, we need information from our visitors. We find it important, however, that the visitor should know that we deal carefully with these data. Therefore, in this privacy statement we explain why and in what way personal data are processed.
1) Who are we?
We are the Stichting (Foundation) de Zaanse Schans, located at Schansend 1, 1509 AW in Zaandam, the Netherlands. Since 1961, various buildings have been transported to the Zaanse Schans district and assembled into a single reservation. Together with the windmills, museums, nature and culture, the Zaanse Schans has grown to become a top attraction, in which you experience the industrial history of the Netherlands from close up. Stichting de Zaanse Schans is responsible for the collection and use of personal data as described in this privacy statement.
2) What personal data do we process?
2.1. General
We can collect and process the following categories of personal data:
– Communication
If a visitor sends us an e-mail or chats with us via social media or online, we record this communication.
If a visitor pays a visit to our website or uses one of our apps, we can record the IP-address, type of browser, operating system, referring website, surfing behaviour and app usage.
Using the programme Mailchimp, we can see if a visitor opens a newsletter or clicks on a link in such a newsletter.
– Social Media
Dependent on the settings per visitor for social networks, we can receive information from the provider per social network. If it is possible to, for example, log into our services with an account from a social network (e.g. Facebook or Instagram), we can receive a social network profile, with contact data, interests and contact persons. More information about the personal data that we receive from the provider of your social network and about the alteration of your settings can be found on the website and in the privacy policy of the provider of the social network.
Visitors can personally opt to share information with us: for example, if you respond to us on Facebook, fill in a customer survey or sign up for the newsletter.
– Visual material
For safety and security reasons, there are video cameras hung up in the parking area of Stichting de Zaanse Schans. Some images are preserved for a definite duration.

2.3. Newsletter, app or events
By means of the newsletter, visitors can stay up to date with events and activities on the Zaanse Schans. Visitors can sign up via the website. Personal data are collected, using the program Mailchimp.
Personal data are collected when a visitor downloads the Zaanse Schans app.
3) How do we collect your data?
Stichting de Zaanse Schans can obtain personal data in a number of ways: for example, when a visitor uses our app, makes an application, communicates with us via social media or signs up for our newsletter.
We only collect data on the basis of the principles referred to in the Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming (Dutch General Data Protection Regulation).
4) Why do we process these personal data?
We process the personal data for the following objectives:
– In order to be able to communicate with a visitor
We use contact data in order to communicate with visitors, to answer questions or to deal with complaints.
– Newsletter
We use personal information in order, by means of newsletters, to send personalised e-mail messages. For example, if a visitor paid a visit to the Nacht van de Nacht (Night of the Night) event, then he or she receives an advantageous offer the following year.
– Application procedure
If you apply for a job or a work placement with Stichting de Zaanse Schans, we ask you to share some data that are relevant to the application procedure.
5) How long do we preserve your data?
Personal data are preserved for as long as is necessary for the purposes that are described in this privacy statement or in so far as is necessary in order to comply with the legislation and regulations and to resolve disputes.
6) Release of data, or sharing of data with third parties
– Third-party websites
Our website may contain links to websites of third parties. If you follow these links, you leave our website. This privacy statement does not apply to websites of third parties. Stichting de Zaanse Schans accepts no liability for the use of your personal data by these third parties. Your use of these websites is at your own risk.
