Accessibility of Zaanse Schans during A10 closures and NATO summit
Are you visiting Zaanse Schans during the weekend of 20–22 June or later in June? Please take note of the following road closures and diversions.

1. Event: Festival Op de Ring (A10)
From Friday, 20 June at 9 p.m. until Sunday, 22 June at 3 p.m., the A10 West, South and East will be closed between the A5 and A1 exits, including the connections with the A2 and A4. The outer ring will remain open for emergency services and public transport. Regional traffic will be diverted via the A1, A9 and A5.

Heavy traffic is expected, with possible delays of more than an hour.

2. NATO summit in The Hague
From Sunday afternoon, 22 June, through Friday, 27 June, additional road closures will be in effect in connection with the NATO summit. This concerns sections of the A5, A4, A44, N44, N440 and N434 between Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam.

Specific closures:

  • A5 (between Raasdorp and De Hoek)
  • A4 (between De Hoek and Burgerveen)
  • A44 (between Burgerveen and Wassenaar)
  • N44, N440 (Hubertustunnel) and N434 (Corbulotunnel)

During these days, rush hour traffic jams are expected to triple, with possibly more than 450 kilometres of traffic jams in the Randstad.

Diversion routes and advice

  • For the Op de Ring festival: follow the diversion via the A1 – A9 – A5.
  • During the NATO summit, traffic will be diverted where possible via eastern routes such as the A28, A50, A15, A27, A2 and A12.

General advice:

  • Avoid travelling during rush hour.
  • Travel by public transport or bicycle as much as possible.
  • Use an up-to-date navigation app (such as Google Maps, Waze, or TomTom) or the NS or GVB public transport planner before departure.

For you as a visitor of the Zaanse Schans
We recommend travelling outside these busy periods if possible or using public transport, for example via Zaandijk Zaanse Schans station. From there, it is only a few minutes’ walk to the entrance. The A10 direction towards Zaanse Schans will be open, the A7 remains open as well. Please notice there will be extra traffic on the road en delays of arrival times.
