Vereniging De Zaansche Molen is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. In December, the spotlight will be on De Bonte Hen oil mill at the Zaanse Schans. De Bonte Hen is also celebrating a special anniversary in December: on 13 December, it will be exactly 50 years since the mill was put back into use after a major restoration.
This month, Zaansche Molen is organising three activities at De Bonte Hen, combining craftsmanship, history and winter atmosphere.
Activities at De Bonte Hen
6 December | De Bonte Hen reveals its secrets
During special tours, millers and craftsmen take visitors to places that are normally closed to the public. They talk about oil pressing, the craftsmanship involved in the mill, and demonstrate techniques used by the sailmaker and hair maker, who are also present.
13 December | Celebration of 50 years of De Bonte Hen
A festive day with a new exhibition in the mill barn of De Bonte Hen and drinks to mark this anniversary. The mill and exhibition will be open all day, and visitors are welcome to raise a glass to 50 years of reborn mill heritage.
20 December | Christmas at De Kip
An atmospheric afternoon with pancakes, hot drinks and snacks, lanterns in the mill and, if there is enough wind, turning sails. The well-known Kip Christmas choir will provide extra winter cheer.
