Zaansche Molen Jubilee 100 years – Youth festival at Molen Het Jonge Schaap on 16 & 17 August

As part of the 100th anniversary of Vereniging de Zaansche Molen, one of the Zaanse mills will be highlighted monthly. On Saturday, 16 and Sunday, 17 August 2025, sawmill Het Jonge Schaap will be about play, creativity and tradition. During the youth festival ‘Without youth, no future!’, the mill will transform into a festive youth paradise full of activities for young and old. Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vereniging de Zaansche Molen at wood sawmill Het Jonge Schaap! This month, the mill takes centre stage with a weekend full of games, crafts & music.

Zaansche Molen 100 Year Anniversary – month of the mill: Het Jonge Schaap

In the jubilee year of Vereniging de Zaansche Molen, each month, one of the mills will receive extra attention. In August, the wood sawmill Het Jonge Schaap is in the spotlight. During the weekend of 16 and 17 August 2025, Vereniging de Zaansche Molen celebrates its jubilee with a youth festival full of experiences. Because without youth, no future.

The Young Sheep sawmill: a young mill with an age-old story

For decades, a Zaanse bovenkruier wood sawmill was missing from the Zaanse Mill Register until 2005. On the Kalverringdijk on the Zaanse Schans stands mill Het Jonge Schaap: a beautifully rebuilt above-cross wood sawmill and the youngest mill of Vereniging de Zaansche Molen. The mill opened its doors to the public in 2007, but its history goes back much further.

Mill Het Jonge Schaap is the youngest mill on the Zaanse Schans, but its history starts back in the 17th century. The original mill stood in the Westzijderveld and was demolished in 1942. Thanks to accurate measurements by mill expert Anton Sipman, as well as modern technology, the mill could be rebuilt between 2005 and 2007. Since then, mill Het Jonge Schaap has been sawing again as before, seven days a week, driven by a dedicated group of volunteers.

Youth festival at Het Jonge Schaap – No future without youth! A weekend for young discoverers

The festive weekend is about play and discovery. Children can take part in old Dutch games, craft activities, carpentry projects and old-fashioned crafts. With a stamp card, young visitors will set off, and those who complete all the challenges will receive a fun surprise.

There will be demonstrations by craftsmen, and those interested can meet millers and millwrights from the Guild and students from the Wood and Restoration Technician course.

Musical encounters on the farmyard

Besides crafts and games, there is also music. On Saturday, 16 August at 14.00, the Ameezing Choir will perform with a recognisable repertoire. On Sunday, 17 August at noon, the warm sound of the Irish choir Sunny Voices will be heard.

A complete day out

In the yard of Het Jonge Schaap, there is plenty to see and taste (for sale). Style Culinair is back on the grounds of Het Jonge Schaap for the summer. During this weekend, delicious fish will be freshly smoked. You can get refreshing summer drinks at the box office of Het Jonge Schaap. All activities are free after admission. Perfect for a summer family outing on the Zaanse Schans.
