Accessibility for the disabled 2024

The Zaanse Schans is a unique living and working neighbourhood with the most beautiful wooden Zaanse houses, museums, mills, shops, old crafts and restaurants. This neighbourhood provides an excellent picture of the Zaan region in the 17th and 18th centuries. This means – unfortunately – that the accessibility is adapted to this and dates from another era. This is to maintain the nostalgic and historical image. Not all locations are accessible by wheelchair or walker. However, Zaanse Schans does have accessible bridges and disabled toilets. These can be found at the main entrance (Schipperplein) and the Zaans Museum. Special parking spaces are available for the disabled. You can reserve a wheelchair at the Zaans Museum if you wish. Mill Het Jonge Schaap is wheelchair accessible, the other mills are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
